Some Things to Look Out For When Buying Retro Games
57
Retro games have recently been rediscovered as some of the best forms of entertainment. While modern newer games do utilize new technologies and are far longer and more complex, many people enjoy the simple entertainment retro games give. They’re fun and don’t require too much thinking to be successful. The problem is that many people don’t know what to look for when buying retro games, and there really are a few factors that should be taken into consideration when you decide to buy retro games. Here’s what you should be looking for when your retro game shopping.
Cartridge Shows No Sign of Severe Wear
Most retro games were made in cartridges so they’re not as easy to damage as modern CD games, but it’s still possible to damage the game, especially since most have been around well over 20 years. Examine the cartridge to make sure it isn’t loose, and make sure there aren’t any noticeable chips or cracks in it. The cartridge should feel tight, solid, and not like it’s about to fall apart any minute.
The Game’s Reputation
Let’s face it, not every retro game is fun to play, and really the best ones that brought great fun were fairly popular. Try not to buy no-name games. Stick to games like soic, Mario bros. and other reputable game franchises. If you’ve never heard of this game in it’s over 20 years of existence then chances are it’s not that great.
Price
Something you should consider before buying anything. Some games are rarer than other, and thus they’re priced. What you should be looking for are fun games that aren’t too limited (and most of the fun games really weren’t). Try to stay away from collector editions since they usually give high prices, and really no extra entertainment value.
